Brighton Hen Party Ideas

Brighton has to be one of the top destinations for hen parties in the UK and even Europe. There is so much to see and do for all ages, tastes and budgets.

People come to party and enjoy all that Brighton has to offer, and there is a lot to enjoy!

A hen party is a beautiful occasion, where women come together and spend time with a dear friend or family member special occasion. A time for women to take the time to enjoy and appreciate each other’s company and reflect and celebrate their relationship with the bride.

In our humble but very experienced opinion, renting a house in Brighton is by the best thing you can do if you are planning to stay a couple of nights in Brighton. Many of the Hen Houses can accommodate up 20 -30 people!

  4. It can be a lot cheaper than staying at a hotel.
  5. There are so many fun activities you can do from your house. There are many services that can be delivered straight to your door.

Hen House Activities

Cocktail Masterclass on a budget. Choose the brides three favourite cocktails and have a little practice at home using You Tube Videos. A Make up Masterclass from the professionals could be a great activity on a Saturday afternoon before the big night out. Using  your own make up selection you will learn the tricks of the trade!

Girls Night In Top Tips and Ideas

Girls night in top tips and ideas

So, I started writing this blog about great tips for girls’s nights in, I was really liking my own suggestions after seeing them work so well at the pamper parties I work at.  I quickly came to the realisation that actually, I want a girls night in!  It’s my birthday coming up and instead of doing the usual of going out for a meal and then heading to the pub I thought actually why don’t I just invite my pals over to mine for a pyjama party/pamper party/major gossip/sleep over.

Charlotte’s Ultimate  Girl’s Birthday Night in check list

I have asked everyone to wear their most comfortable clothes, make up need not apply.

I have chosen Mexican as my cuisine of choice as it’s my favourite and it’s my birthday.  I’ve asked everyone to bring a dish.  I will need to make a list and ask every to choose something to make and bring or else we all end up just eating Nachos and dips….

I have booked our massage and beauty therapists to come my house, late afternoon.  This was a very popular idea with my pals as they all lead very busy lives and the fact that all they have to do is come to mine and lay on a massage couch was a real winner.

I’m going to download Just Dance on my sons Wii Switch and ask everyone to choose 3 favourite tunes for the evening dance battle.

Buy Cake, lots of!

Girls Night in… Sorted ?

So that’s my party sorted, why not start organising your own.  I’ve added some tried and tested ideas below.

  2. Pyjama Party – Kick back in your favourite non constricting relaxed leisure wear and load up those chick flicks.
  3. Team Foody Night – Don’t let the host do all the work, make this a team effort.  Choose a menu or a country of choice cuisine. Everyone pick a dish they are happy to make and bring along and feast out.
  4. Theme Karaoke Night–  Choose your favourite film or musical and theme it up with costumes, make up and throw in some Karaoke!
  5. Clothes Swap – Go through your clothes & accessories. Pick out those items that you’ve been meaning to take to to the charity shop.  Enjoy an evening of charity shop shopping without leaving the house. Create new outfits and looks, with tips and advice from your pals.
  6. Self Educating Wine tasting – Wished you could know the difference between a Chardonnay and a Chablis or a Beaujolais and  a Bordeaux ? Why not learn and taste together. So next time you are choosing a wine at dinner, you might have a better understanding.  We love this website perfect beginners guide.
  7. Just Dance Battle – Now, this can become very competitive..  Pick your favourite tunes, move the furniture and dance your feet off. This can also be done remotely from your own homes if you have the right tech set up.

Top 7 Natural skin care moisturisers for autumn & winter

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

In this autumnal time of the year, we very often see a difference in our skin as well as the weather outside. A combination of the drop in temperature, central heating, wind and rain can make our skin susceptible to dryness and damage.

I place my annual order of oils with my supplier Bay House Aromatics to get my stock up of essential and carrier oils ready for the colder months.

I use carrier & essential oils every day for so many different reasons on family, my clients and myself as a part of a skin routine and to dilute essential oils. In this blog, I am highlighting oils that are amazing for your skin for the up and coming cold months.

There are thousands of products in the market that promise to protect your skin but I’m never sure what preservatives or parabens they use to prolong the shelf life so I make my own as much as possible from scratch, it’s easy and much cheaper!

Carrier oils – What are they, where do they come from, what do they do?

Carrier oils are derived from (mainly) nuts and seeds of different plants.
They can be used as part of your daily, weekly or monthly skin care routine
Used to dilute essential oils as most cannot be directly applied to the skin.

There are MANY different carrier oils you can buy. Here are my tried and tested favourites for you.

Coconut oil
This oil is easily absorbed into the skin moisturising deeply and leaving no greasy residue. Great for removing make up!
Most coconut oils are solidified so you can choose to use another carrier oil to create more of a liquid substance. Suitable for all skin types, especially acne prone and for lips as a balm.

Jojoba oil
Jojoba oil is a very effective moisturiser for the skin and great for all skin types.
It has been reported that this wonderful oil helps relieve dry skin and It’s also useful for treating acne, psoriasis, skin irritations, wind burnt skin and chapped lips.

Avocado oil
This is a dense oil that works deeply to moisturise dry skin, packed with omega 3 fatty acids, and antioxidants, ideal for the winter months. This a great oil to combine with other carrier oils as the aroma can be very strong so less is definitely more.

Argan oil
Moroccan women have been using this oil for skin care for centuries. In fact,  It is derived from the fruit kernel from the Argon tree. The Moroccan goats climb high into argan trees to eat fruit and leaves. The goats then poop out indigestible seeds which are collected, processed and turned into cosmetics. Argan oil is a good carrier oil for combination and greasier skin tones. Great for home based acne treatments. This helps to combat the excess oil production.

Rosehip oil
Rosehip oil is rich in the essential fatty acids and omega-6. Because of it is high free-radical fighting antioxidants, rosehip oil can be used to aid the skin aging process. A few drop of this massaged into your skin before bed on cleansed skin is a great night beauty time ritual.

Grapeseed oil
We use grapeseed oil as our preferred oil for body massage. Recently I have been using it for our beauty facial treatments and have loved the results. Grapeseed is a universal oil and is a lighter oil than most. I use this oil to rebalance oily skin, it never leaves an oily residue and great for giving yourself an at home facial massage after cleansing to help oxygenate your skin.

Wheat-germ oil
Wheat-germ oil is an effective moisturiser for your skin for the colder months. Wheat-germ oil contains a healthy infusion of vitamin A, vitamin D, B vitamins, antioxidants and fatty acids. In particular this oil is effective for chapped and dry skin a rich source of vitamin E, which helps reduce skin damage, fight free radicals to help maintain an even skin tone.

All these oils can be purchased on line or at your local health shop. Buying organic products is always best so you know that there are no hidden pesticides or chemicals used in the growth of the plants.

Skin and oil table
Normal skin                 Jojoba oil, almond oil, coconut oil
Dry skin                        Avocado oil, olive oil, wheat germ oil
Oily skin                       Grapeseed oil, argan oil
Sensitive skin              Jojoba oil, coconut oil
Mature skin                 Coconut oil, rosehip oil, avacado
Combination skin      Grapeseed oil, rosehip oil, apricot kernel oil
Acne prone skin         Argan oil, grapeseed oil,

Remember a little goes a long way. You only need to use a few drops so the oil does not saturate your skin.

In my next blog, I will be creating tried and tested essential oil blends for the skin with the carrier oils I have discussed.

Essential Hen Party Planning tips

CONGRATULATIONS is in the air!  Your favourite girl is getting hitched and she wants you her BFF to organise the bash of the year – THE HEN PARTY

Planning a hen party can seem quite a daunting task.  It can feel like you need a degree in event planning and management to just get started.  As well as the pressure of delivering a life changing ‘see you off ’ for your best pal, your choices will have to appeal to her works colleagues,  friends and family.

Top tips for natural insect repellents

Hurrah, summer is here which is fantastic but that also means the little critters that can make our balmy warm evenings not so fun want to join us.

There are many products, creams and sprays that can be bought off the shelf to use on ourselves. Many of these products contain chemicals such as DEET which can cause skin irritation and if consumed can have wide variation of side effects from vomiting to hives on the skin.

As an aromatherapist I have been perfecting my own natural recipes over the years with just a few ingredients, including essential oils to help keep bugs at bay.

Bug repelling Essential oils:

Citronella  – Lavender – Peppermint – Cajiput – Rosemary – Eucalyptus – Thyme

Make your own insect repellent spray:

  • 1 dark glass bottle with spray head
  • 2 ounces of boiled or distilled water
  • 1 ounce of witch hazel
  • Total of 50 – 75 drops of essential oil mix – choose any combination of the above.
  • 5 ounces of carrier oil – Avocado – Jojoba – Sweet almond

Keep smelling your mixture as you blend. If you find the aroma is too strong for your taste, adjust the amount of drops. You just want be sure to keep the total percentage of essential oils under 15% for safety.

Note: Don’t fill the bottle entirely you will need room to shake the mixture each time, which is necessary as the essential oils do not dissolve in the water and will therefore separate. outside eating banner

If you are dining alfresco, a simple oil burner with an egg cup full of water and up to 5 drops of essential oil will help discourage uninvited small insect diners to your table.

If you have been a victim of a mosquito bite, 3 drops or lavender oil in a tea spoon of carrier oil rubbed on the effected area will help alleviate the swelling and itchiness.

Essential oils must be used with care. I do not recommend using these essential oils on young children. Do not apply essential oils directly to the skin or swallow internally. If you would like a freshly made pre blended oil or spray, please contact us as we make them ourselves!

The Great British Hen Party

After working with hen parties for the past 6 years, I consider myself somewhat of expert on these fabulous events.

A bride to be’s hen party is a momentous occasion to be celebrated with her closest friends and family.  It’s a celebration of that special person’s life before marriage.
